briscoe’s first thanksgiving

I swear, there has never been a dog kissed and cuddled and as much as Briscoe was on Thanksgiving. What a spoiled little puppy!

My family took approximately 786 photos of Briscoe yesterday. Here are three that I took with my camera of Briscoe playing with a new toy from his Auntie Robin.

happy turkey day

How delish does this pumpkin pie look? I love Thanksgiving. The food, the family, the National Dog Show. It’s the traditions that make the day so special. For instance, my family does not eat Thanksgiving dinner. This tradition began back when I was a cheerleader in high school, and we’d all return home after the morning Thanksgiving Day football game famished.  Rather than noshing on sandwiches we decided to just bump up our turkey dinner by several hours. I’m ten years out of high school, but we still eat Thanksgiving lunch!

Does your family have any unique Thanksgiving Day traditions?

Also, I’d like to thank all of my readers — old friends, new friends and friends I haven’t met yet. You’re the reason I’m inspired to practice my photography and keep on writing.

briscoe’s first grooming

Look at my handsome pup! Briscoe had his very first grooming session today, and I love how clean and white he is.  What I’m not crazy about is how they shaved the top of his nose (snout?). It’s very Poodle, and I prefer the rounder Maltese look. Oh well. It’s just hair. It’ll grow back.

Then I’ll try another groomer.

our newest appliance

As a homeowner, it’s a huge pain in the ass when one of your appliances breaks beyond repair.  The upside, however, is that you get to buy a newer, cooler one! That’s exactly what J and I did on Saturday because our washing machine bit the dust. We went out to Nebraska Furniture Mart‘s scratch & dent department and bought shiny Bosch 500 Nexxt Washer for a great price because it was last year’s model.

Is it strange that I’m actually excited to throw in a load of laundry today?

dog plus paper towels

An oldie but goodie. This was from when we still lived in the apartment. Lucky for us, Briscoe is still just as naughty.

reading twilight

I had lunch with a friend yesterday who brought with her Twilight by Stephenie Meyer for me to borrow.  I’m very interested to see what the hype is all about.  If I can finish it by the weekend (and I can’t imagine that I won’t–after all, it is a book for teenagers), she and I will go see the movie together with all the tweens and pre-teens in Omaha.

Have you read the Twilight series? What did you think? Will you be seeing the movie?

perfection equals misery

I should print this illustration by Jody Barton and hang it every room of my house. My perfectionism definitely adds a dash of misery to my otherwise happy life. It’s a habit I would love to be able to break.

washington post commorative edition

A huge TY to Molly for sending me one of her extra November 5th issues of The Washington Post.

we not me

When I saw this poster on More Ways to Waste Time, I immediately thought of marriage. As I’m learning, in a successful marriage you often need to do what’s best for the relationship (the “we”) rather than what’s best for yourself (the “me”). I’ve been told this is a crucial lesson to learn, especially during the first year — when it’s easy to fall back into singleton selfishness.

You can buy it for $18 here. Unfortunately, I love the message, but I’m not crazy about the colors.
