Somewhere in Middle America

home again

On Thursday, February 19th, J returned home from his second deployment. I snapped this shot when I went to the base to pick him up. It’s so great to be a family once again.

until we meet again

On March 1st, Somewhere in Middle America will have a new URL — somewhereinmiddleamerica.com — so don’t forget to change your bookmarks! Until then I’m signing off to work on the blog’s new look and to prepare for my husband’s return from his deployment.

I leave you with one piece of news: My little sister got engaged in NYC on Friday the 13th! Congratulations, sis! I love you and V.

See you all in March!

personal library

I’m looking to grow my library of self-improvement books. Can anybody recommend books in the following categories?

  • Photography: Books on composition and lighting, Photoshop for beginners and the basics of digital SLRs
  • Business: Books on goal setting and self-motivation and staying organized
  • Crafting: Books with patterns for a beginner knitter and somebody who want to learn to crochet

Thanks for your help!

love medicine

This morning I woke up and wished my husband was in bed next to me. Not because it’s Valentine’s Day, but because I was feeling sick and wanted him to take me to the doctor. My throat was sore and I had a low-grade fever. Convinced I had strep throat, I made an appointment to see my doctor though I was hesitant about going because I didn’t know how bad the roads would be after yesterday’s snowstorm. Unfortunately, I had no choice but to get in the SUV and drive. Thankfully, the streets weren’t as dangerous as I had feared.

Luckily my strep test came back negative, which means I don’t have to cancel my afternoon and evening plans with my girlfriends. We’re getting haircuts, having Chinese food for dinner and seeing Confessions of a Shopaholic.

I hope you have a lovely Valentine’s Day!

cover it up with a robe

Do you ever wear a robe?

I’m in the market for a new bathrobe, something to wear while I do my hair and makeup after my shower/before I get dressed and at night over my pajamas. But I’m not sure what type to get — terrycloth, cotton or fleece. What do you recommend?

another snow day in omaha pt. 2

If those were the before photos, these are the during/after photos of the snowstorm in Omaha today.

snow pup

Briscoe sure does love snow.

And that’s a good thing because we might get 6 inches of the white stuff.

another snow day in omaha

Another snow day in Omaha.

This morning I received an automated call from the Omaha Public School district letting me know that school was canceled today.

A) I don’t have any children.

B) When the call came in at 6am, it hadn’t even started snowing!

The flurries began to fall less than an hour ago, and I fear that by 1pm, when I’m supposed to head down to Trocadero in the Old Market, driving conditions will be BAD. Right now, however, it’s awfully pretty outside.

the return of J

If plans don’t change, J is scheduled to return home from his deployment in just under a week. I’ve been thinking about what I can do to celebrate his homecoming. Last time we were living in an apartment, so I taped a handmade “Welcome Home!” poster to the outside of our front door and had a big balloon waiting for him inside. What should I now that we’re in a house?

blogging hiatus

Beginning on February 15, Somewhere in Middle America will be offline for a couple of weeks getting a facelift. When we return on March 1, we’ll have a new URL (SomewhereinMiddleAmerica.com) and a new look. The blog’s focus will be changing just a teensy bit so the categories will be different, but other than that, it’ll be the same blog you’ve grown to love.

That said, now’s the time to buy some advertising! Send me an email for more information.
